If it does not imagine itself into a situation, it is ever free of the result. We must experience in imagination what we would experience in reality in the event we achieved our goal, for the soul imagining itself into a situation takes on the results of that imaginary act. The future dream must become a present fact in the mind of him who seeks to realize it. In the beginning was the unconditioned awareness of being, and the unconditioned awareness of being became conditioned by imagining itself to be something, and the unconditioned awareness of being became that which it had imagined itself to be so did creation begin. The awareness of being remains, regardless of the degree of forgetfulness of who, where and what I am. I may forget who I am, where I am, what I am, but I cannot forget that I AM. The very center of consciousness is the feeling of I AM. I AM is a feeling of permanent awareness. The claim that imagining creates reality needs no more consideration than is allowed by science.
Science progresses by way of hypotheses tentatively tested and afterwards accepted or rejected according to the facts of experience. The purpose of the first portion of this book is to show, through actual true stories, how imagining creates reality. Because the symbolical language of this twilight realm is much the same for all men, the recent explorers of this realm – human imagination – call it the “collective unconscious.” The Bible is a revelation of the laws and functions of Mind expressed in the language of that twilight realm into which we go when we sleep. Its exercise requires tranquility and peace of mind, “Use not vain repetitions,” for prayer is done in secret and “thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.” Parade and vain repetitions are foreign to prayer. The first requirement is a controlled imagination. Innocence and guilt are mere words with no meaning to the law of consciousness, except as they reflect the state of consciousness itself. Nor is predestined fate the author of my fortunes or misfortunes. There is no chance or accident responsible for the things that happen to me or the environment in which I find myself. The world, my mirrored self, ever bears witness of the state of consciousness in which I live. That which I feel and believe to be true of myself is now projected in space as my world. The world is my conditioned consciousness objectified. Fancy, thought, hallucination, suspicion: indeed, so wide is its use and so varied its meanings, the word imagination has no status nor fixed significance.
